Brighter Skin, Measured in Days
Laser Skin Resurfacing in Staten Island
Fade sun spots, restore luminosity, and refine texture with the Lutronic ULTRA, a 1927nm fractional laser that renews the skin’s surface with minimal downtime. Customized for every skin type, all year long.
Non-Ablative Laser Resurfacing with the Lutronic ULTRA
Years of summers on the South Shore beaches, commuting on the ferry, and everyday sun exposure add up. Over time, sun damage shows as brown spots, freckling, a dull or uneven tone, and a rough texture that makeup cannot quite hide. Laser skin resurfacing with the Lutronic ULTRA was designed to correct exactly these concerns. It does so with far less downtime than traditional resurfacing lasers.
The ULTRA (officially the LaseMD Ultra, by Cynosure Lutronic) is a non-ablative fractional laser that works at a 1927nm wavelength. It treats a fraction of the skin at a time and leaves healthy tissue in between to speed healing. The energy targets the upper layers, where pigment and surface damage live. Patients often describe their skin as brighter, smoother, and more even within about a week.
ULTRA is one of The Formula’s signature technologies, available at all of our locations. This versatile device can be customized for a range of skin and hair concerns, from improving skin tone and texture to supporting hair restoration with KeraLase™ treatments.
ULTRA can also be used to create precise microchannels in the skin, allowing us to pair treatments with regenerative and skin-supporting solutions such as PRP, exosomes, and PDRN to enhance topical delivery and complement the skin’s natural renewal process.
At our Staten Island location, treatments are thoughtfully customized to each patient’s individual needs and goals under the direction of Nicole Frontera, FNP.
Nicole is a family nurse practitioner with more than a decade in aesthetic medicine. She is also a former clinical nurse educator for Cynosure, one of the largest laser companies in the country. That depth of device knowledge lets us calibrate every treatment precisely, from a gentle glow session to a more intensive correction.
How Non-Ablative Laser Resurfacing Works
1927nm thulium wavelength
This wavelength is strongly absorbed by water in the skin. That allows precise energy delivery to the epidermis and upper dermis, where sun damage, pigment, and fine texture concerns sit.
Fractional, non-ablative delivery
Instead of removing the top layer of skin, the ULTRA creates thousands of microscopic treatment zones surrounded by untouched skin. This speeds healing and keeps downtime short.
Controlled, even coverage
Magnetic IntelliTrak rollers and Controlled Chaos Technology distribute energy evenly across the skin. The device also measures and displays energy delivery in real time.
Enhanced topical absorption
The micro-channels created during treatment allow specialized serums and ampoules applied afterward to absorb more deeply, boosting brightening and hydration results.
Over the following days, the treated skin renews itself. Damaged, pigmented cells shed and fresher skin takes their place. At the same time, new superficial collagen improves texture and tone.
Why Choose Laser Resurfacing at The Formula
Most patients see brighter, clearer skin within a week, with only mild redness and dryness while the skin renews. There are no open wounds and no lengthy recovery.
With appropriate settings, the ULTRA can treat all skin types in any season. We calibrate energy and coverage to your skin tone, history, and goals.
Treatments are performed by our trained clinical team and customized under the clinical direction of Nicole Frontera, FNP, whose background as a former Cynosure clinical nurse educator gives The Formula extensive experience with energy-based aesthetic technologies.

Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Right for You?
The ULTRA is ideal for patients who want clearer, brighter, smoother skin without the downtime of ablative laser resurfacing. Good candidates often:
- Have sun spots, freckles, or uneven skin tone
- Notice dullness, roughness, or visible pores
- Want a pre-event glow or a regular skin maintenance treatment
- Have sun damage on the neck, chest, arms, or hands
- Want a laser option that can be customized for their skin tone
The ULTRA may not be appropriate if you:
- Are pregnant
- Have an active infection or cold sore in the treatment area
- Have recently taken isotretinoin
- Have a tan or recent significant sun exposure
- Have a history of abnormal scarring
We evaluate any suspicious or changing spot before cosmetic treatment, and we review your full history at consultation.
What to Expect
1. Consultation and Skin Analysis
We assess your skin type, pigment, and sun history, and discuss whether the ULTRA alone or a combination plan will give you the best result.
2. Preparation
Your skin is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied for comfort, especially at higher settings.
3. Treatment
We glide the handpiece across the treatment area. You will feel warmth and a prickly sensation. Sessions typically take 10 to 20 minutes depending on the size of the area.
4. Post-Treatment Infusion
A specialized serum or ampoule may be applied immediately after treatment to take advantage of the skin’s enhanced absorption.
5. Healing and Renewal
Expect redness for a day or two and a warm, sunburned feeling the first evening. Over the next several days, your skin may feel dry or slightly rough. Treated spots may darken temporarily before flaking away.
Most patients resume normal activities right away. Skin typically heals within five to seven days, revealing a brighter, more even complexion.
Results, Sessions, and Aftercare
Some patients notice a difference after one session. For more significant sun damage or pigment, a series of treatments is typically recommended, spaced several weeks apart. We will build a plan based on your skin and goals. Many patients also schedule the ULTRA seasonally to maintain their results.
Aftercare Essentials
- Use a gentle cleanser and a rich moisturizer we approve while the skin renews
- Do not pick or scrub flaking skin; let it shed naturally
- Avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids until we clear you
- Wear broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun exposure
- Avoid makeup for 24 hours, or as directed
Pairs well with:
- RF Microneedling with Potenza for deeper texture, acne scarring, and firmness
- RF Skin Tightening with Density for nonsurgical tightening without downtime
- Chemical peels and medical-grade skincare to maintain clarity between sessions
Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs
Your Questions, Answered
Laser skin resurfacing uses laser energy to renew the outer layers of the skin. Ablative lasers remove skin, while non-ablative lasers heat it and leave the surface intact. At our Staten Island location, we use the Lutronic ULTRA, also called the LaseMD Ultra. It is a non-ablative fractional laser with a 1927nm wavelength. It treats sun damage, brown spots, dullness, and uneven texture. It renews the skin’s surface with minimal downtime.
It is the wavelength of the laser light. At 1927nm, the energy is absorbed by water in the upper layers of the skin. That makes it effective for surface pigment and texture, while keeping treatment gentle and recovery short.
Most patients feel warmth and mild prickling. A topical numbing cream can be applied for comfort, particularly at higher settings.
Most patients return to normal activities right away. Expect redness for a day or two, then dryness or light flaking as the skin renews over five to seven days.
Some patients see improvement after one treatment. Deeper sun damage and pigment usually respond best to a series. We will recommend a plan at your consultation.
The ULTRA is designed to treat all skin types when settings are properly calibrated. We adjust energy and coverage to your skin tone to minimize the risk of pigment changes.
Melasma is a complex, hormonally influenced condition that requires a careful, individualized approach. The ULTRA’s FDA clearance covers benign pigmented lesions such as age spots, sunspots, and freckles. If you have melasma, we will discuss the options best suited to your skin at your consultation.
The face, neck, chest, arms, and hands are common treatment areas, especially where sun damage has accumulated.
CO2 lasers are ablative, which means they remove layers of skin. That creates more dramatic resurfacing, but recovery takes significantly longer. The ULTRA is non-ablative. Downtime is much shorter, and it still produces visible improvements in tone and texture.
Yes, with appropriate settings and strict sun protection. The ULTRA can be performed year-round, though you should avoid tanning and direct sun before and after treatment.
